I LOVE my Easy Cutter

I was chatting to Glenda (Peppercorn Minis) this morning about the medieval tower she's making and we got to talking about cutting wood. Now, I'm the world's worst at cutting ANYTHING straight - those bread slicing machines at the bakery were invented for people like me! Give me a loaf of bread to slice and it'll end up looking wedge shaped in no time at all. I know it's all in the way you hold your wrist (they told me that about playing tennis too and I can't do that either!) but I don't have to worry about that since I got my Easy Cutter. It chomps through stripwood like a knife through butter, and it does it STRAIGHT - every time! And as you can see from the pic you can easily adjust the angle of the cut.

AND it's not expensive!! It currently retails in Australia for around $40. I bought mine online from Australian company Hobbytools here.

Midwest Products (in the USA) have a store locator on their website as well as online shopping or I guess you could Google the Easy Cutter in your country if you wanted to try to find a local supplier.

So if you're a woodworking tragic like me check this out because it could save you a lot of grief!

(This recommendation is my personal opinion, I haven't had any communication with either Hobbytools Australia or Midwest Products in relation to this recommendation.)

I was wondering about those and if they worked. Thank you for telling us about them. I am so glad you gave that tool a rave review!!! I will buy one now.
I can't wait to see what you do now that you know all your cuts will be perfect. :-)

I feel a bit guilty actually Catherine because I've had it for a while (used it to make Marit's daybed) but it wasn't until I was talking with Glenda that the idea to blog about it occured to me.

Now if someone could come up with something to help me cut straight with my jigsaw I'd really be a happy gal - I've been cutting out holes in MDF for windows this week and one of them looks more like the map of Australia than a rectangle!

Yes! The Easy Cutter is amazing -- it was one of the first tools I bought and I use it all the time ... a million times easier than a mitre box, for sure!

Oh Norma! You alway make me laugh. I am sure the windows can't be that bad. I have seen so many beautiful things you have made!!!

I am very gld you blogged about that tool. I couldn't imagine how the cuts could be that good chopping them. It must use a razor blade????

OK... I went to Amazon.com and ordered one! I can't wait to test it. Thank you Norma.

Let us know when it arrives Catherine, and what you think of it.

And re my 'wayward' jigsaw cuts - just call me the Queen of Polyfilla ;)

Thanks for telling me about this, Norma - sounds perfect for me and my humorous woodworking 'skills'!
It's definitely on my to-buy list :)

Congratulations on your cutter!

It was one of the first things I bought for this hobby, it's actually a parquet strips scissor, here for sale at the hardware store
and costs here in the Netherlands about 20 Australian dollars.

I use it quite frequently and can not live without it!!!!

Greetings, Karin.

hi norma, i love my easy cutter, too. but sometimes he's not in a good mood because i expect too much of him!! maybe i should buy one of these and give him a break! hehe :)

Thanks for the tip Norma! I definitely could use one of those, cutting 45 angle corners for frames and so on would be so much easier. I'm just like you, I can't cut straight lines at all and I'm even worse at using a saw!
And thank you for the mail, I'm answering it right now :-)

Glad to read I am not the only one to have problems with straight wood cuttings ;)Thank you for the tip Norma!

I know mine as "Mitre snips" but whatever you call them they are a brilliant piece of "kit" The uses are endless and replacement blades are cheap

This is so much easier than battling my mini mitre box and saw. If I were the sort to do Christmas I would be adding one of these to my Christmas wish-list...

Thanks!

That looks well but does it cut all the wooden types ?

I've had one for years but I cannot say I "love" it. The only angle it cuts easily and accurately is 45 degrees, Otherwise, you have to come up with a way to stabilize the wood strip because there is nothing to brace the wood against...even for a clean, straight 90 degree cut. And there is a limit to the thickness of the wood which can be cut. But it is a handy thing to have.

Cath, I've used it to cut Basswood strips and moulding and Karin says it's made to cut parquet flooring strips. It's a sturdy piece of equipment, not just meant for soft wood like balsa.

Love mine too! The thing is a dream and so much safer than my dremel!

Now that is pretty nifty!

uh oh thanks a lot Norma. This is really perfect and I didn't know something like this exists. I found it in my country and will order it. Hihi so funny what you wrote about the machines for bread-slicing in the shops. Untill now I thought they were made for me... :-)

I bought one of these last year, Norma. I have yet to use it, but I will be using it in the near future. I'm like you - I cannot slice a bread loaf to save my life. Once I tried to cut through a bagel and had to have stitches!
