'Le salon' is taking shape

Far from finished but beginning to develop its character.

So far this room has involved a few makovers!

The table was originally polished mahogony, nice in it's own way but the dark wood just isn't  suitable for this room.

 The two major makeovers were
 the fireplace ...

... and the sofa

I've had the fireplace as well as the sofa and fabric for a long time.  When each was purchased I had no idea where I'd use them and certainly no expectation they'd all end up in the same room  but I think they all look quite happy here together.  The sofa isn't generally recognised as quintessentially French but a bit of research reveals the design is from the Napoleon III era. I think it suits this room quite well and will probably stay in spite of my initial plan to make something in Louis XVI style.

The pretty pink hydrangeas are by Jody @ Peach Blossom Hill
She has some in her Etsy store right now!

I've decided not to work on this room any further for the moment. I want to progress to the top floor and come back to this later when I have a better feel for just how I want it to be. That's not quite happening right now so onward and (literally) upward!

This room is very sophisticated. I love it already. I think your tweaking will make it the ultimate perfect room. It's gorgeous already though!

What Makeover so well chosen for each minis. I really like your room, with the long tall doors, it gives the French look. I also have the fireplace in just the original color I had not even think that I could paint it, hm, maybe sometime.
It takes shape, I look forward to seeing more.
I've bought the book by Lea Frisoni, it is absolutely beautiful to look in. I do not understand a word of French, so there are plenty of challenges, but I love to "read" it.

Hi Norma, you did some fantastic make-overs. Real improvements I think; the hearth and sofa look beautiful now.

The salon is off to a beautiful start, Norma. I hear you on mahogany - it has its uses, but can be so overpowering in miniature that I inevitably wind up stripping it off in favor of a more subdued finish.

I did not recognize the Reutter Porzellan fireplace at all! A good thick coat of white paint really does create an entirely different look.

Very nice. The flowers are gorgeous. The reutter porcelain fireplace looks so different with the white. I like it a lot. Thanks for sharing.IndyPoppy

Hi Norma! Lovely makeovers! I love your fabric on the divan! It must have been quite the job to reupholster but well worth the effort because it looks amazing. That is one beautiful fireplace. I love what you have done to the room so far and I look forward to seeing it to the finish.

Helllo Norma! I have to give the fireplace and the re-worked furniture, 2 thumbs way up! I think that you made the right choice and the lighter paint makes everything look clean and fresh. What a difference color or the lack of it can make. It can completely alter the feel of the room. Very pretty!

Hi Norma, I love your salon, and what great makeovers you have done, especially the settee. The lighter colours definitely look better in a French or shabby chic decor.
